Homestead Homestay is based around a beautiful old homestead built in the 1800s. Rooms are available inside the house and in cabins around the homestead, with separate kitchens, lounge and bathrooms. The house itself has a lot of history, with lofty high ceilings.
The safe and friendly homestay is run by Robin van Berkhout who is originally from the Netherlands. His open and warm personality makes living (short or long term) at his property an absolute delight.
Facilities & Amenities Homestead Homestay has comfortable sofas and beds, clean linen and regularly cleaned rooms, bicycles, ten pin bowling, volleyball nets, dart board, TV, swimming pool, radio, outdoor brazier and inside fireplace to keep warm in the winter. All kitchens are well equipped with utensils, cutlery (including chopsticks) and lots of other things, including a rice cooker. Lots of space! You have a beautiful, rural view all around you with big avocado and fruit trees which are a huge drawcard as you can pick what you need during your stay. PRICING – Rooms are available for short or long term stays Shared cabins and house rooms are priced at $120/week. Private room in the house is $150/week. Tent and campervan sites are also availablefor $90/week. Location Homestead Homestay is perfectly situated, and is only: • 5 minutes to Taradale by car which has shops and a small supermarket • 7 minutes to Central Napier by car • 15 minutes to Hastings by car • 15 minutes cycle to the closest supermarket • 5 minutes cycle to the closest dairy/deli Looking for work or a car – need to set up a bank account or IRD number? We have many backpackers or working holiday travelers who stay here. If you’re looking for work, Robin can show you the best places to find work. There can be a lot of seasonal jobs available such as picking blueberries, or thinning and packing apples, plums, peaches and many other fruits. He can also give you advice on good prices for vehicles when buying a vehicle for a longer-term stay to make sure you still get your money back when you finally sell. Robin is also happy to go to the bank with you to help you set up a New Zealand bank account or an IRD number . Robin is full of friendly and helpful advice and he is more than happy to help! Things to do in the area Hawke’s Bay is a beautiful region, with many things to do and see in your down time. Wineries are abundant, beautiful trails to tramp are close by and Napier’s CBD is full of art deco history. Visit the gannets at Cape Kidnappers and hike or drive up Te Mata Peak, Hawke’s Bay’s most picturesque lookout with a spectacular 360º view. Visit the cheese factory cafe or relax in Ahuriri, Napier’s up and coming hub of bars, restaurants and cafes.
