TRIP CONFIRMED
We are planning to come to Nelson on the Saturday of Kings Birthday Long Weekend 1st June 2024 via SH1 through Kaikoura to Blenheim then into Nelson finishing up in Motueka.
We can take orders up until 10pm on Thursday 30th May but then have to close off so we can finalise numbers.

- all the hens are hylines
- price is $10.00 per hen
- $15 travel fee per order
- they are 18 months old and have done one season of laying at a free range commercial farm.
- pick up times and details will be sent via message to everyone who orders on Friday night.
- these birds are for laying pets only AND CANNOT be consumed as food for people.

Springtime comes a little later in our corner of Mt Heslington Road, mother nature just a little wary of a late frost coming down the hill...but now the wisteria around the cottage is finally bursting into bloom much to the delight of this weeks guests when they found a moment to rest after a big day out at Wairoa Gorge Mountain Bike Park.
The Last Straw Cottage is probably your closest accommodation option for this exciting mountain bike extravaganza. If that's a little too strenuous for you, the newest section of The Great Taste Trail between Kohatu and Taperwera has just officially opened and The Last Straw Cottage is a few minutes in the saddle from this easy bike trail.

Spring has sprung in our lovely part of the world and with evenings now longer, walks in the countryside bear gifts of wee lambs in adjacent fields and some of the loveliest looking calves I have ever seen in a neighbour's property! Not to mention those pesky wee baby bunnies with free reign on the cottage lawn, boldly digging holes in the cottage garden. The kids will love them all!

Queen's Birthday weekend offer!
We still have no bookings for the up-coming holiday weekend New Zealand! If you are wanting to go explore 'our own back-yard' and would like a really beautiful place to stay whilst you adventure around, we would like to offer you 3 nights for the price of 2..for a family of four or more. Mt Heslington looks stunning in the autumn sunshine too...perfect for a winter walk and a snuggle up in front of a blazing fire or soak in the claw-foot bath when you get home!

Since taking over the reigns of this wonderful place in the beautiful Mt Heslington Road, covid-19 struck and all guests cancelled in record time! We have been lucky to host a lovely American family during the initial 4 weeks of lockdown and have already had one local couple for a romantic get-away since restrictions eased (wine, chocolates and open fire provided!).
We are open and ready to welcome guests and hope that those eager to escape the confines of their bubble, travel from near and far to enjoy our exquisite surroundings.
The cottage sleeps six comfortably and has a cot and additional mattress for smaller family members too. Look forward to welcoming you to The Last Straw Cottage!

We've just taken ownership of this gorgeous Boutique Holiday Cottage near Nelson, New Zealand. The cottage has been built from straw bales by the previous owner and is only 20 year's old but has olde worlde charm with exposed beams, a beautiful staircase, made from a macrocarpa tree that grew in the paddock next door to the cottage, and three of the cutest and most comfortable bedrooms you will find anywhere!
Add to that, an open fire place, comfortable sofas and a well stocked book case and movie library. Not to mention the ultimate indulgence of a claw foot bath as well as a fully equipped kitchen and laundry room.
The cottage sits in a very peaceful, idylic location within it's own completely private garden. Rabbits play on the lawn only to be disturbed by wandering Pukekos and the distance calling of Peacocks at the neighbouring farm.
