Can we travel when we move to Alert Level 3?

We are still at Alert Level 4. When we are at Alert Level 3 next Tuesday 28 April, travel will still be restricted and you should keep to your local area – e.g. going to work or school if necessary, shopping, or getting exercise.

Traveling to another region
If you were in the wrong place when the restrictions came into place, and need to get home, you can move throughout New Zealand to do so from Tuesday. You can only move once, and in one direction. Any other travel between regions is only allowed for essential reasons. You can find these on our website.

Taking public transport
Public transport will still be available. You can use it to travel to work or school if required, but be aware there will be limited capacity. You should sit 2 metres away from other people on public transport.

Can we travel for work?
You can travel for work within your region, or to a neighbouring region at Alert Level 3. You should only travel if it is necessary. Essential workers can travel outside of their regions, where it is necessary to do so.
