One of New Zealand's most celebrated photographers is one of our own.
We're delighted that Fiona Clark, long-time Friend of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre (Hoa Hฤpai), is a featured artist in Economies of Deferral, opening Saturday 8 August.
Born in Inglewood and living in Tikorangi, Fiona has spent more than 50 years documenting the people, landscapes and stories of Aotearoa with honesty, empathy and courage. Her groundbreaking work has challenged social attitudes, given voice to communities often overlooked, and created an enduring visual record of Taranaki's changing environment. Today, her photographs are held in major public collections throughout New Zealand.
In Economies of Deferral, Fiona presents work exploring the social and ecological changes surrounding Tikorangi, joining other leading artists in an exhibition examining the complex legacy of Aotearoa's energy industry.
