May is a busy month for Scotlands hostel as we hold our annual Pink ribbon fundraiser.
Our amazing Scotlands hostel Year 13s with the support of our Cater plus team pulled together a delicious brunch that was lovingly prepared for our wonderful young ladies and staff supporting those who have been touched by breast cancer. (There was even a step-by-step tutorial given by Mrs. Wright using the information and products supplied by the Pink ribbon foundation)

A big THANK YOU to those who have already donated.
We still have our donation box available in the hostel reception or if you would prefer to contribute to our hostels pink ribbon breakfast online, please donate below:

Good morning Scotlands hostel family

Today we acknowledge King Charles iii birthday, the current monarch of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms.

Did you know:
The King’s Birthday is a national public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in June, creating a long weekend for New Zealanders to enjoy
Although King Charles III’s actual birthday is on 14 November, New Zealand observes the holiday in June to align with the country’s public holiday calendar and seasonal considerations.
One of the key events on this day is the release of the King’s Birthday Honours List, where appointments are made to the Order of New Zealand and other honours, recognizing individuals for their services to the community or nation

Remember to take some time every day to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful role models in your life 🥰

Good evening Scotlands hostel family

We are collecting donations for the Food Bank to help support people and families in our community who are struggling. There will be a basket in the hostel where you can drop off any donations. The things we are looking for are stuff like canned foods, toiletries, and non-perishable items. Every little bit helps, and even small donations can make a big difference. We would appreciate it if everyone got involved and helped us support a great cause.
Ngā mihi

Happy Mother's Day to all mother's ❤️

Did you know…

Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.”
Once a major tradition in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe, this celebration fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent and was originally seen as a time when the faithful would return to their “mother church”—the main church in the vicinity of their home—for a special service.

Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s…

The origins of Mother’s Day as celebrated in the United States dates back to the 19th century. In the years before the Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia helped start “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs" to teach local women how to properly care for their children.
The official Mother’s Day holiday arose in the 1900s as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her mother’s 1905 death, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children.
In May 1908 she organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration at a Methodist church in Grafton, West Virginia. That same day also saw thousands of people attend a Mother’s Day event at one of Wanamaker’s retail stores in Philadelphia.
Following the success of her first Mother’s Day, Jarvis—who remained unmarried and childless her whole life—resolved to see her holiday added to the national calendar.

Remember to take some time every day to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful wāhine role models in your life 🥰
