Ata Marie facebook whanau...An update from us here at Northwind Lodge Backpackers @ Henderson Bay, Far North Aotearoa.

If you are keen to get a crew of friends or whanau or both , together and want to book out our place for a holiday let us know and we can make it happen.
Plenty to do and see.

Also an update from our recent WATER hearing in Kaitaia early September.

Firstly I would like to acknowledge the AWESOME effort made from many in our community this time who put in very well thought out and researched submissions, and also to those who attended the hearing on not only 1 of the days but 2 or 3 also.
Great effort for the protection of our Aupouri Aquifer, and also the protection of ourselves as a whole community from the associated chemical poisonous sprays that the avocado orchards are using.

The commissioners adjourned until Sept 27th to allow time (hopefully not to do a deal) for the applicants 'experts', Northland Regional Council (NRC) & Department of Conservation (DOC) to come to an agreement on some of the issues that were raised.

From the outset the applicants 'experts' showed their true colours after hiring a lawyer to have 21 of us submitters lawfully STRUCK OUT of the democratic process of the hearing because we were going to mention chemical sprays, monoculture avocado development, limited notification etc.
Thankfully the commissioners said NO to this .

I believe the hearing was a PEOPLES HEARING , by the people, for the people and I was both proud and humbled by the ones from within our community who STOOD UP and presented their submissions , with truth, dignity and from the heart , with passion.

If you would like to check out any of the submissions:

Limited Notification - 24 groundwater takes from the Aupouri Aquifer
HEARINGS were held from Tuesday 1 September 2020 and documents are still available to view.

There was plenty of doubt created of the modelling used by the applicants 'experts' , plenty of presuming, guessing, assuming , when all we are asking for is accountability, assurance, honest & reliable monitoring.

Any questions or suggestions can still be emailed to the following:

There are many 'fights' going on and water just happens to resonate with me for the simple reason that WATER IS LIFE!
If you want to feel what that actually means....try turning your water off for an hour, half a day, all day and see what it feels like.
We are born in water and we are made of mainly water.

Kia Ora all that can 'hear' me lol...
I need your help...
As you hopefully are all aware we have been fighting an ongoing water battle up here ( as are many places around Aotearoa, and the world.
Protection for our aquifer and our whole communitys right to fresh, clean , water is A MUST!
However , as many of you are aware, it is not easy to deal with government and council and all the shiny pants lawyers and nasties that leach off them, driven by $$$.
Next week we are going back to a 2nd hearing , in Kaitaia @ Te Ahu for 3 days,
Tuesday 1st of September
Wednesday 2nd
Thursday 3rd.

Alot of the community have been stopped from being able to put submissions in against the latest 4 MILLION m3 of water take for MORE avocado orchards due to obstructive rules by our Northland Regional Council.
Rules like You must have a bore to have a say, you must live within a certain area (limited notification) , you must not talk about chemical poison sprays as it is a WATER hearing.

I say as long as you drink water and you care about our Aupouri Aquifer ( sole source of underground water) for the real far north, and you do care about your whanau and your community...YOU DO HAVE A SAY.

The help i need is for you to share this korero and encourage anyone you know that lives here or will be visiting here on the above dates to be part of the 'PEOPLE POWER' movement that will show our united passion to not put up with this careless, abusive treatment of our precious water for both now and in the future.

If you know someone with a submission , come along and support them, if not, come along and just your presence will show that this is a real concern, you do care and you will be counted as a number.
I hope that numbers will make our government/council SEE that this is a lot bigger to our community than they ever thought possible.

Kia Ora for your help and hope you are all ok in your part of the world.

Any questions or blessings for the cause accepted...PEACE & AROHA from me x
