Weather Update for Kai Iwi Lakes Campers (Pine Beach & Promenade Point) for arrivals up to and including Sunday, 25 January 2026.
Kia ora campers!
Just a quick update ahead of your visit to the Lakes.
While we’re seeing some rain, the rough weather is mostly hitting the east coast, our campgrounds are largely unaffected, and the lake is still safe for swimming.
For the latest weather info, please check MetService (location: Omamari).
All local roads around the campgrounds are currently open and accessible. If you're travelling from further away, please check the NZTA Journey Planner before you head off, just in case there are any roading issues on your route.

Flexible Options During the Weather Warning:
Because there’s a weather warning in place, we’re offering a bit of extra flexibility:
✔ Change your booking dates free of charge (same number of days/campers; valid up to 30 June 2026). Please refer to our website (desktop version) for real time availability.
✔ Or request a refund for any unused camping fees (less a $10 admin fee).
If you'd like to adjust your booking or arrange a refund, just get in touch via our email, [email protected] and we’ll help you out.

Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you at the Lakes!

Keep a Watchful Eye on Your Little Ones at Kai Iwi Lakes.
We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience at the lakes. Yesterday, we had three close calls in the water and a child who wandered away from their campsite. Thankfully, everyone is okay, but these incidents are a reminder of how quickly things can happen.
Please:
✅ Always supervise children near the water; accidents can occur in seconds.
✅ Make sure kids know their boundaries around campsites and the lake.
✅ Use life jackets for young swimmers and keep them within arm’s reach.
✅ Report any concerns to campground staff immediately.
Your vigilance helps keep Kai Iwi Lakes safe for all families. Let’s work together to prevent accidents and ensure everyone enjoys their time here.
Thank you for caring for your tamariki and for respecting the safety of others. 💙

Please Do Not Remove Shower Heads at Pine Beach Campground!
We want everyone to enjoy their stay at Kai Iwi Lakes, and that means keeping our facilities in good working order. Removing shower heads from the campground showers is strictly prohibited.
Unfortunately, one shower in the men’s block has had to be locked while we wait for a replacement shower head. If you are the person who removed the shower heads, please return them to the office, no questions asked, so we can reopen the shower whilst we wait for the new part to arrive.
Our team works hard to maintain clean, functional amenities for all visitors. Please respect the facilities and report any issues to campground staff rather than attempting to fix or modify equipment yourself.
Tampering with campground property may result in being asked to leave the domain. Thank you for helping us keep Kai Iwi Lakes safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Please slow down — let’s keep Kai Iwi Lakes safe for everyone!
We want everyone to enjoy the magic of Kai Iwi Lakes this summer. Our campgrounds are at capacity and we’re welcoming lots of day visitors, so please obey the signed speed limits as you make your way to the lakes.
Pine Beach access: The speed limit is 30 km/h on Domain Road from Kai Iwi Lakes Road, and it reduces to 10 km/h as you approach the day visitor area.
Promenade Point access: The speed limit is 10 km/h from the Kai Iwi Lakes Road entrance.
Slowing down protects pedestrians, children, cyclists, and wildlife. Visitors who blatantly ignore speed limits and put others at risk may be asked to leave, trespassed, or referred to NZ Police.
Thank you for respecting the posted speed limits and helping everyone have a great time at the lakes.

If you're hitting the water at Taharoa Domain – Kai Iwi Lakes over the holidays, don't forget to Check, Clean, and Dry watercraft, gear, and clothing, to help prevent the spread of invasive freshwater clam (Corbicula fluminea) and other aquatic pests into Northland.

Northland Regional Council is asking all water users that visit Lake Taharoa to complete self-certification before using the lake. This simple process confirms that you've followed Check, Clean, Dry protocols and helps protect Northland’s freshwater ecosystems.

Find out more about the easy self-certification process at: https://www.nrc.govt.nz/environment/weed-and-pest-control/biosecurity-programmes/self-certification-portal-kai-iwi-lakes/

We’ve been made aware of an incident over the weekend involving someone riding a motorbike into one of the lakes at Taharoa Domain – definitely not something we want to see! We're issuing a trespass notice, and the matter is being handled through the proper channels. Thank you to everyone for looking out for our beautiful lakes.

If you can, please remind family and visitors that no motor vehicles are permitted on or along the shore except at the designated boat ramp.
