“The wonderful lettuce windows from the Stratford hospital were positioned to look out over the Tasman Sea, and 100-year-old French clay tiles, finials and copper domes combined nicely with the old wharf timbers positioned overhead. Oregon timber from the ceilings of the hospital were used for framing and rimu was turned into stairs, tables and kitchen joinery. Sheet copper was used to flash windows and doors, and the copper guttering sent rainwater down cast iron rain heads and pipes. The weatherboards from the Koru Hall can be found on the mezzanine floors. Shells, driftwood and stones were inlaid into the polished concrete base.”
