Weka can be found all over Stewart Island. They enjoy getting out to the beach and if you aren't careful they will sneak up and help themselves to your picnic lunch.

It is such a treat to see the South Island Saddleback on Ulva Island. They were nearly extinct in the 1960's, but with a lot of hard work re establishing them on various islands it is thought they now number around 2000.

It pays to keep your eyes open while on Ulva Island. The kiwis down here are diurnal - they aren't afraid to come out during the day.

Summer is coming :) This is the native Rata which flowers in December. It's our version of the Pohutukawa Christmas tree found further north.

This is the view from Lee Bay looking towards Port William. It is the start of the Rakiura Track - one of the Great Walks. There are local water taxis which can drop you off 4 or 5 hours down the track giving you the option to walk back to Lee Bay and then back to Oban either by foot or local taxi.
