It is that time of year again, the gates about to be unlocked for a fresh new season of inspired trampers. I hope the trail treats you well and you enjoy some of the spectacular scenery that we take for granted all too often.
Merriview Hut is a first comes first serve basis but there is plenty of room for tents.

Please note the Merriview Hut is now closed for the season. We wish you all safe travels onto your next adventure or heading home.

The 2024/25 season is just about upon us. I’m sure the Longwoods will leave a few of you with some tales to tell. Be careful out there, be safe and Merriview Hut will be open for you to dry off and warm up.

Congratulations to all the trampers out there that battled the southern elements, especially the Longwoods. The hut will be closed up now till Labour Day 2023.

2022/23 season is nearly upon us and as the borders open I’m sure we will see many more enjoying the trail once again.
Price is $15 p/person per night for the hut & $10 for camping.
Hut entrance is just 40m up Merrivale Road, no detouring off the trail required.

A few trampers have weathered the storm in NZ (so to speak) and are keen to finish their epic journey once allowed.
Currently the gate is locked to Merriview Hut but depending on tomorrow’s announcement we may be able to open the gate to booked trampers only (cleaning will need to happen between trampers)
