Let’s get behind our local area school hockey team as they fundraise to travel to Nelson and play!

It’s a big trip and a big adventure for the team, but getting there takes a fair bit of fundraising. 💪

The Otago Ale Trail Half Marathon kicks off this weekend, and we’re just 10 minutes from the start line!

After a satisfying run, there’s no better way to recover than sinking into our Night Sky Spa with a cold beer in hand. 🍻✨

✨ Night Sky Magic ✨

Our guests Deborah & David from Invercargill were treated to an exclusive night sky tour last night with Paul from Naseby Night Sky Tours — and the Central Otago night sky certainly didn’t disappoint!

The Tarantula Nebula put on an incredible show, revealing details that are almost impossible to see with the naked eye.

This stunning image is a stack of 62 individual photographs, carefully combined to bring out the finer detail hidden within our spectacular night sky. ⭐️

There really is something magical about looking up from here… ✨

The early mornings are always worth it in Central Otago. 🌅

Today's sunrise painted the sky with incredible colours, reminding us why we never tire of calling this place home. Every sunrise is different, but each one is just as magical as the last.

If you needed a reason to get out of bed a little earlier, this is it. ❤️

Nice work Bill!!

Every small community has its local legends, and here in Oturehua, one of those is Mr Bill May.

Bill is the owner of The Crow's Nest Backpackers, but that's not all he's known for. Every single morning, no matter the weather, you'll find him making his way to the NIWA weather station to record the day's temperature.

Rain, hail, frost, wind or snow – Bill is there without fail, helping keep an accurate record of our local weather.

It's people like Bill, quietly doing what they do every day, who help make Oturehua such a special place. Nice work, Bill – we appreciate everything you do! 👏❄️🌦️

❄️ Snow flurries to start the day... ❄️

Another fresh start in the Ida Valley, with a light dusting of snow falling across the landscape this morning.

This video was taken at our local school bus stop, where it was a relatively mild -1°C—not too bad by Central Otago winter standards!

There's something special about watching the valley wake up under a gentle flurry of snow. Winter really does have its own kind of magic. 🌨️🤍
