Ida Burn Dam — a little local history! ☀️❄️

Built in 1931 to irrigate 228 hectares of farmland, the dam also became a gathering place for curling, skating and ice carnivals. Scottish gold miners brought curling to Otago in the 1860s, and the winter carnivals drew thousands in the 1930s and ’40s!

From hot, dry summers when irrigation is vital, to freezing winters that can turn the dam into a sheet of ice, it’s a wonderful example of life’s seasonal contrasts here in the Ida Valley.

🐦‍⬛🚴‍♂️ IT'S MAGPIE SEASON!! 🚴‍♀️🐦‍⬛

Look out, cyclists… the magpies are on patrol! 👀🤣

Gary & Sharon were well prepared for any incoming pesky magpies as they headed off on their cycling adventure!

Armed with cable ties attached to their helmets and a GoPro ready to capture any aerial attacks, these two weren't taking any chances! 😂

Let's hope the magpies got the message!

🎬 EAST OF EDEN – RIGHT ON OUR DOORSTEP! 🎬

Did you know that parts of Netflix's East of Eden were filmed just 10 minutes down the road from Inverlair Lodge?

The spectacular landscapes of the Maniototo provided the perfect backdrop for what is currently Netflix's #1 show!

With its vast open spaces, rugged mountains and breathtaking scenery, it's easy to see why Hollywood came calling!

Another reason to visit beautiful Central Otago!
