What does a mum really need for Mother’s Day?
Spoiler: it’s definitely not a new vacuum.

We’ve put together a list for the woman who quietly, expertly holds everything together:

- A weekend away from the never‑ending to‑do list
- A long, luxurious bubble bath (bonus points for wine and chocolate)
- A slow wander through the bush, just her and the birds
- A bed with soft sheets and views that make her whole body relax
- A moment to slow down, breathe deep, and finally exhale

For the mothers who pour so much of themselves into others — give her a place that pours back.

And for our Tasman & Golden Bay locals, enjoy 35% off your stay (use code EXPLORE at checkout). Visit www.karuotekiwi.com to book now.

🌙🍂 Cool autumn evenings hit different out here.
There’s something about that crisp air, the soft light, and a simple crackling fire that slows everything down in the best way...

The kind of warmth that gets into your bones.
The kind of quiet that reminds you how good the slow moments are 🔥✨

Puponga holds more history than its peaceful coastline lets on. ⚒️

Before it became a place for windswept walks and golden sunsets, this little corner at the base of Farewell Spit was a hardworking mining settlement — a community built on coal, determination, and the promise of a better life.

From the late 1800s through the early 20th century, miners carved their days out of the hills behind Puponga, hauling coal that once powered homes, steamers, and industry across the region. The old tramlines, the weathered foundations, and the stories passed down through families are reminders of a time when Puponga hummed with the rhythm of pickaxes, horses, and grit.

Today, the mines are quiet, but the landscape still whispers its history.

Puponga isn’t just beautiful. It’s storied. And that’s what makes it unforgettable.

Sunrise 🌅 A miracle. Every. Single. Day.

It's often spectacular; first lighting up the dark and then presenting itself straight out of the Tasman Sea in corals, gold and pink.

Yes, it's beautiful but that's not why I rise early to see it every day. For me it's a reminder in gratitude. This seemingly simple event is responsible for literally EVERYTHING. Nothing else would exist without our star rising without fail. So I start my morning with a heart felt thank-you for making this life, all life, possible.

The godwits are back on Farewell Spit — and it never stops feeling extraordinary.

After flying thousands of kilometres from Alaska, these tiny long‑haul champions touch down on our shores like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

Watching them gather along the sand, feeding, resting, and preparing for the next leg of their journey is a reminder of just how wild and connected our planet really is. Farewell Spit becomes a temporary home, a sanctuary, and a front‑row seat to one of nature’s greatest migrations.

If you’re ever looking for a moment that puts life into perspective, stand quietly on the Spit and listen to the godwits. They’ve travelled farther than most of us ever will — and they still return, year after year.

🌊✨The expansive, nutrient-rich, tidal flats at the end of the driveway provide more than just a beautiful view.

A treasure trove of Tuangi (NZ Cockles/Littleneck Clams) can be discovered just beneath the surface at low tide. Gathered with sandy toes —this is the best kind of simple abundance. Salty, sweet and utterly delicious 🤤
