🌿 Looking After Mistletoe Bay 🌿
Here at Mistletoe Bay, we love our beautiful environment and are always looking for ways to care for and protect it. 💚
♻️ Reducing & Recycling
We have a “take your rubbish home” policy, but we do recycle aluminum cans and glass. Our glass is crushed on site and reused to help fill potholes around the camp. Food scraps are also saved and put to good use feeding some of our local farm animals. 🐔
☀️ Solar Power
Our whares and camp kitchen use solar energy to heat water, helping us reduce our energy use.
🛍️ Conscious Purchasing
We carefully consider what we purchase for our camp shop and aim to minimise unnecessary plastic packaging wherever possible.
💧 Saving & Reusing Water
Our water and waste systems are designed to help us save and reuse resources. Our water on site is harvested from streams and filtered and treated without chemicals and a very precious resource. The clean water that then goes down the sink can have another purpose — it ends up helping flush the toilets!
🧼 Caring for Our Wastewater System
Cleaning products and chemicals are carefully selected to ensure they are suitable for our onsite waste treatment system.
🐦 Protecting Our Wildlife
We love the wildlife that calls Mistletoe Bay home and follow DOC guidance to help protect our native species. We have pest control measures in place and provide information around the camp to educate visitors about protecting our environment, including fishing rules.
🐕 Dog-Free Site (also pet free)
Mistletoe Bay is a dog-free site, helping us protect our wildlife and keep the camp safe and enjoyable for everyone.
🌱 Always Improving
Of course, there is always room to do better! This year we’ll be working on some new environmental initiatives and looking at even more ways we can reduce our impact and care for this very special place.
