Some guests arrive on two wheels and others on four 😊🏎

It was a pleasure to welcome the Vintage Car Club to the Timber Trail Lodge.

The club has 36 branches and runs a variety of events to cater for all the members around New Zealand. Sunday coffee mornings are becoming increasingly popular at many branches. These are often followed up with a bit of a drive to a scenic destination. Also popular are overnight (or longer) tours.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We hope you enjoyed your stay in the Pureora Forest and look forward to welcoming you back.

⚠️ TIMBER TRAIL EARTHQUAKE SAFETY NOTICE

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck at 4.51am this morning, Saturday 25 July. GeoNet located the shallow earthquake 5 km south of Taumarunui, at a depth of 9 km.

For Timber Trail users, the earthquake was centred approximately 30 km south of Ongarue, the southern end of the trail. While it was not centred directly beneath the Timber Trail, the Ongarue end and southern section are the closest parts of the trail to the affected area.

Damage and slips have been reported on some local roads and in surrounding areas. Please take extra care along the full length of the Timber Trail, with particular caution:

📍 Around the Waione Suspension Bridge, between kilometres 60 and 63
📍 From the Ongarue Spiral south towards the Ongarue trail end

Please:
• Take notice of all warning signs and do not proceed past any closures
• Watch for slips, fallen trees, loose material, damaged structures or changes to the trail surface
• Be aware that aftershocks may cause further movement
• Report anything unusual through the Timber Trail Hazard Report Form—photos are especially helpful

Conditions may continue to change as checks are completed. Please ride, walk or run with care and look out for one another.

Russell is back from Europe which means it is time for our annual winter pest trapping around the lodge.

Pest trapping plays an important role in protecting the incredible native wildlife that calls the Pureora Forest home. By helping control introduced predators such as rats, stoats and possums, we are doing our part to support native birds, insects and the health of this special ecosystem.

Winter is one of the best times to check and maintain trapping lines, ensuring they are ready to continue protecting the forest throughout the year.

Every trapping checked is another step towards keeping Pureora wild and thriving 🌿🐦.

We're hiring: Assistant Lodge Manager

We're looking for an Assistant Manager to join our team at Timber Trail Lodge in the heart of Pureora Forest Park.

This is a live-in, hands-on role with a stong front-of-house focus. You'll help lead and coach our lodge team, welcome and brief guests, co-ordinate daily operations and take responsibility when the Lodge Manager is off duty.

The role would suit someone who enjoys working with people, is practical and adaptable, and is genuinly comfortable living and working in a remote, off-gridd enviroment. An interest in conservation, nature and outdoor recreation would be a real advantage.

Comfortable on-site accommodation and food are provided. Applicants need their own reliable vehicle and must be able to commit to the role for at least two years.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please get in touche or share this post.
