🍃DID YOU KNOW?

The Timber Trail travel through one of the most significant areas of ancient native forest in the North Island?

“It is one of the rarest, most precious stands of broad-leaf podocarp forest in the North Island, and one of the last remaining intact podocarp forests in the world.”

Pureora also was one of the last native forests in NZ to be opened for logging, in 1946. Then in 1978, conservationists climbed into the treetops and occupied platforms to protest further native logging.

The cool part is that this pieces of this history are still there to discover. Just 3km into the trail, a short detour take you to a historic Crawler Tractor, left behind by a bushman who was recovering totara for fence posts.

Which Timber Trail rider are you? 🚴👀

We all ride the same trail, but we definitely don't all ride it the same way!

⚡The Charger: "See you at the Lodge!" Head down, legs pumping, absolutely NOT stopping for every photo.

📸The Photographer: "WAIT! Stop here!" Has 147 photos before lunchtime and somehow makes every suspension bridge corssing a photoshoot.

🍃The Scenic Cruiser: No rush whatsoever. Stops for the views, the birds, the forest, the bridges... and possibly another snack.

😅The Hill Negotiator: Starts every climb with confidence. Halfway up: "WHO said this was a good idea?" Gets to the top and immediately forgets the suffering.

😍The Everthing Rider: Stops for the photos, loves the downhills, complains about the climbs, eats all the snacks... and finishes already talking about doing it again.

A big thanks to Barakat Contractors for getting stuck in and sorting the fencing for us.
