today we said goodbye to the best girl that ever lived, 14 years after she hitched a ride in the boot of the truck back to our farm.
izzy was the queen of rebranding, going from a working dog who lived in a kennel to a retired dog with her own spot on the couch (and if you sat there, you would get kicked off. nowhere else to sit? too bad. enjoy the floor).
izzy took attention very seriously. if you patted her once, you must continue to pat her forever. if you stopped, she reported it as a hate crime. she would also nudge you with her paw if you dared to stop for half a second to let you know that a) she was still there and b) your job is not even close to being done.
izzy was loving, caring, affectionate and a proper foodie. she could sense when food was near and would scope out the weaklings, worming her way as close to them as possible to maximise chances of scraps being sneaked under the table. she would succeed in her mission- every single time.
izzy was the CEO of the side eye. she would take herself to bed every night (but not before a play fight with john), howl the second she believed to be deprived on food or treats, would wag her tail every time john asked her “are you happy?”, and looked like a sad, victorian child being held hostage any time we would try to take a good picture of her (see above).
izzy made everyone fall in love with her straight away. from running out to greet you with a bark and a demand for a belly rub, to always knowing when you needed a hug, to her insistence on always being in front of everyone at all times (and not hesitating to bowl you over to achieve this goal), to her ongoing love of car rides in the boot- she was smart, stubborn, hilarious and full of love.
izzle mcsquizzle mcdizzle mcduff has permanently etched a place in our hearts. she was, and will always be, The Very Best.
terraced chalets is empty without her. rest easy, old girl. 15/10 🤍
