Tai Mitchell Hostel Tai Mitchell Hostel is the boarding house of Rotorua Boys' High School founded in 1994.

Raukura Hostel Official 🪶🪶🪶

Our modern hostel offers twin and triple-share accommodation for 138 students across two houses, supervised by resident Housemasters and assistants. In 2005 brand new facilities were built on site, providing accommodation for up to 104 boarders.

Term 4 – Final Term of 2026

Kia ora e te whānau,

Welcome back to our boys as we get underway for the final term of 2026. Please see our Term 4 key dates and events to keep in mind over the coming weeks.

It’s a short but important term, particularly for our senior boys as they work towards completing their certificates and finishing the year strongly. A reminder that our Year 12 and 13 students will only be signed off for Study Leave once they have successfully passed the year.

The hostel will also remain open over Labour Weekend.

We’re looking forward to a positive finish to another big year at Tai Mitchell Hostel.

Last Sunday, we had the opportunity to come together for our Tai Mitchell Hostel Father’s Day Brunch, celebrating our fathers, koro, uncles and whānau alongside their sons.

A special mihi to Tai Mitchell Hostel Old Boy Ngarohi McGarvey-Black, who joined us as our guest speaker and shared his journey through Raukura and his experiences and successes on the rugby field.

It was awesome to see so many whānau turn up and spend this time with our boys. We look forward to making this an annual tradition, with plans to introduce a Mother’s Day luncheon from next year as well.

Awesome to see four of our Tai Mitchell Hostel boys selected in the Bay of Plenty U16 Gold Team:

Eseroma Filipo, Joseph Loanakadavu, Coby Law and Simione Rarasea.

It’s also great to see a strong group of fellow Raukura students heavily represented in the side. Congratulations boys. We’re proud to see you representing our kura, hostel and the Bay with pride.

Another awesome achievement from one of our hostel boys!

Congratulations to Tawa Thomas and the Rotorua Boys’ High School Senior Golf Team, who have finished runner-up at the 2026 New Zealand Secondary Schools National Golf Championship at McLeans Island.

After a tough start to his final round, Tawa showed plenty of fight to settle himself and battle back, carding an 8-over 80 and contributing to a huge final-day effort from the team that saw them finish just three shots short of the National title.

A great achievement at the highest level of secondary school golf. We’re proud of you Tawa and the way you continue to represent Raukura and Tai Mitchell Hostel.

The boys are ready to get their National Tournament underway this morning at McLeans Island Golf Club in Christchurch!

After getting a look at the course, the boys found it long, with plenty of thought-provoking tee shots that will put their course management to the test.

Today’s tee times:

⛳ Rangimarie Manahi – 8.40am
⛳ Captain Kevin Bang – 8.50am

Safe travels and good luck to our U14 Elite Rugby team, who are en route to Palmerston North to represent Raukura at the Super 8 Ian Colquhoun Tournament! 🏉

The boys kick off their tournament tomorrow morning with their opening game against New Plymouth Boys’ High School at 11.00am.
