Tai Mitchell Hostel Tai Mitchell Hostel is the boarding house of Rotorua Boys' High School founded in 1994.

Our modern hostel offers twin and triple-share accommodation for 138 students across two houses, supervised by resident Housemasters and assistants. In 2005 brand new facilities were built on site, providing accommodation for up to 104 boarders.

A proud moment for Raukura and Tai Mitchell Hostel Old Boy, Chima Okechukwu, who has committed to Syracuse University to continue his journey playing NCAA Division I Football in the USA.

Chima was part of Raukura and Tai Mitchell Hostel from 2023ā€“2025, and itā€™s awesome to see another one of our old boys taking his talents onto the international stage.

All the best to our three Tai Mitchell Hostel boys -Clay, Ritik and Karambir as they take the pitch for their final game at the Super 8 Hockey Tournament in New Plymouth.

After four hard-fought games, the team has two wins and two losses and will play Tauranga Boysā€™ College for 5th place today.

The 1st XI game gets underway at 9:30am and can be watched via the livestream link below.

Over the holidays, Daezon Hooper had the opportunity to travel to the USA with the Polynesian Basketball Team, competing in tournaments in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

The team picked up two wins at the Bigfoot Hoops Tournament before going undefeated at the GTE Tournament in Los Angeles. They also visited UNLV and experienced the NBA Summer League.

An awesome experience on and off the court ā€” although Daezon reckons the American kai still doesnā€™t beat home!

A heartfelt thank you to the whānau who braved the cold to join us at Moko Marae for our information evening last night. We truly appreciate your support and your commitment to learning more about the opportunities available at Rotorua Boysā€™ High School and Tai Mitchell Hostel.

A huge mihi to the whānau of Moko Marae for welcoming us into your beautiful wharenui and helping organise such a special evening. Your manaakitanga made us all feel incredibly welcome.

Thank you also to the parents of our current hostel boys who generously shared their experiences and helped answer the many questions from whānau considering boarding next year. Hearing directly from those who have walked this journey is invaluable.

Finally, a special congratulations to our boys. You spoke with confidence, pride and honesty, and represented both yourselves and Tai Mitchell Hostel exceptionally well. Thank you for sharing your experiences and offering encouragement and advice to the next generation of boarders.

A big thank you to Tiaana Anaru and the team at Awa (formerly Rapids Jet) for the opportunity to take some of our Tai Mitchell Hostel boys and their whānau out on the Waikato River. It was a great experience that everyone really enjoyed.

Weā€™d also like to thank the team at Huka Falls Kai & Coffee for shouting us lunch afterwards. We really appreciate your generosity and hospitality.

Kia ora e te whānau,

We hope you all had a restful Term 2 break and enjoyed celebrating Matariki with your loved ones. We look forward to welcoming our boys back as we begin another busy and exciting term at Tai Mitchell Hostel.

Please take a moment to read through our Term 3 Key Dates and save them in your calendar. There are a number of important events coming up, including Academic Review Day, the School Ball, Senior Preliminary Examinations, Winter Tournament Week, and our Fatherā€™s Day Luncheon.

A reminder that the hostel reopens from 12:00pm on Sunday. If your son requires transport from the bus station, please get in touch so we can arrange a pickup.

We also ask whānau to continue using Orah for all weekend leave requests and any changes to sign-out arrangements throughout the term.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to another successful term working alongside our students and whānau.

A heartfelt thank you to Tokoroa Intermediate for generously hosting our final Tai Mitchell Hostel Information Evening. We are incredibly grateful for your manaakitanga and support.

To all the whānau who came along over the past two weeks, thank you for taking the time to meet with us, ask questions, and learn more about life at Tai Mitchell Hostel and Rotorua Boysā€™ High School. It has been a privilege to connect with so many families across our information evenings, and we truly appreciate your interest and support.

As our information tour comes to a close, this is a friendly reminder that hostel enrolments close this Friday. If you are considering boarding at Tai Mitchell Hostel while attending Rotorua Boysā€™ High School, you now have just two more days to complete the online hostel enrolment form.
