What's with all the NZ birds of prey loitering on our roof lately? If it's not Kea (mountain parrot) getting up to mischief, or a Ruru (owl) looking spookily at us, it's a Kārearea (falcon) stopping by for a bit of R&R with a view! Jeesh, you'd think we live in a wildlife sanctuary. 😉🦉🦅🐦‍⬛

And right on cue Mt Taranaki made a rare and striking appearance on our horizon this morning - telling us that rain is coming.

We hear them every night, but in all the 10 years we've been here, we've never seen one up close and personal until this soltice evening. This native Ruru or Moorpork zipped passed our eyes in eerie silence and landed silently in our jacaranda tree. As it sat there watching us in the darkening light it gave me just enough time to rush for my camera and tripod. What a treat!

The reward at the top of the Motupipi Hill mountain bike trail in stunning Golden Bay always leaves me breathless. So lucky to have this fun asset just a short bike ride away from Beau Vista Pohara 🚴🏽‍♀️😍..

Um, so either I’ve just photographed the rediscovery of the century… or Beau Vista has become the country’s most ambitious wildlife corridor.
South Island kōkako on the seat with what looks like the extinct Haast's eagle overhead!!
Completely normal sighting for 1 April in Golden Bay.
