As we look back on our first year managing the Alexander Motel here in the beautiful King Country, Murray and I just want to say a heartfelt thank you. ❤️

What a year it has been! We’ve been so incredibly grateful for the warm welcome, kindness and support we’ve received from the local community, our guests, and everyone who has crossed our path along the way, and now it is time for us to move on to our next chapter.

Taking on the motel has been a wonderful journey, with plenty of learning, hard work, laughs and memorable moments. It has been made all the more special because of the people we’ve met and the friendships and connections we’ve made along the way.

We have been very lucky to call this beautiful part of the country home and to be part of such a wonderful community.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, stayed with us, recommended us, shared a kind word, or simply popped in for a chat. It truly means more than you know.

Here’s to the next chapter at the Alexander Motel! We know the community will make the new managers feel just as welcome and show them our true community spirit 🥂🏡

After the massive week here in Taumarunui, we would like to make a shoutout to the teams at both Taumarunui Plumbing and King Country Glass for the massive efforts, sleepless nights and amazing mahi from their teams, throughout our region. Helping not just ourselves, but the entire community, with the clean up after the Earthquake and more recently the Fire. To all the other businesses and the RDC we would also like to extend our most sincere thanks for all of your awhi and tautoko in what has to be one of Taumarunui's most hectic weeks for 2026.

Over the past few months, we have busy doing upgrades to our motel, and the beautiful garden is one of those upgrades! The gorgeous hedges are starting to bloom up along the fenceline, creating a more welcoming approach with a easier upkeep for us all which is a win win in our books 😃
During winter we will also be performing other upgrades to our motel such as painting some of the exterior to give this old reliable girl a new lease on life. Performing these maintenance tasks helps us ensure that our motel will last for many more years to come, therefore ensuring our guests will always have somewhere warm, comfortable and inviting to stay 🍁🌺

We are pleased to promote that we have onsite, a slow feed EV charging station, that will fit and charge most vehicles while you stay with us overnight. For a small surcharge, you can rest assured that your vehicle will remain topped up and ready to roll for your next adventure.
