"Honest, cheap and cheerful travellers digs"

Stayed two nights in room 5, as a base for Taupo and Rotorua after Auckland. Booked on line. Room 5 is next to the laundry and under the office which makes it sound like it should be noisy, but it was fine. It's self contained, with a generous queen sized bed and a single in the main room, a whole kitchen with a back door and grass.. A shower and a separate toilet. The room has room to move around in. The building is vintage, but it is clean and functional.. Hot water, tea, coffee, bed made up, real milk in a jug.. It was like staying at Auntie's for the holidays again, with the same feeling of care and welcome.. It has the essential modern amenities such as decent TV, airconditioning, electric blanket, powerboard access for charging cameras and phones. The only thing we wished we had was a second bedside table, but we improvised with one of the chairs :-) The property is near the train line, so you will hear freight trains, and you will hear the next unit if they sit outside and talk, but no more than other hotels. The Maccas, and a big servo are just over the road, also a supermarket, and a mainstreet with several cafes and shops. also within walking distance is one of the friendliest and most useful i sites we found all trip.

We were impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of this well arranged motel which presents from the road as hotch potch of two older buildings used for larger groups in front of a concrete block row of flats behind that was probably constructed in the late fifties/early sixties. Because we always travel with our dog it was refreshing to receive a very warm and open welcome from Ranai & Marie who I would rate as extraordinary down to earth hosts who will do everything in their power to help We stayed in the unit under the office and found it peaceful and quiet with a spacious queen bed studio lounge with an additional single bed. The kitchen though not modern was spacious with full stove and under bench fridge and good old stainless benchtop. Selection of crockery, cutlery and kitchenware and utensils was all of good practical quality and user friendly. Shower was excellent with a separate toilet beyond it. Free unlimited Wi-Fi was a real bonus. Bed was extremely comfortable and not at all saggy so we woke up refreshed and pain free to face the day. Linen was all fresh and clean. Rare to find a good motel for $100 a night we would highly recommend this motel to the budget conscious who want a great nights sleep in a comfortable clean environment.

Really nice and cozy place to stay. Room was clean and tidy. A lot of pillows on the bed to choose:-). Super convenient location close to gas station, supermarket and some restaurants. Beautiful location by the river.
