The best start to the weekend! 🔥💦

We’re stoked that The Sauna Project Kinloch is now set up by the Kinloch Marina — and we’ve quickly become regular sauna goers!

With a wood-fired sauna and regular weekend sessions, it’s the perfect way to unwind. Three 15-minute sauna sessions with a quick dip in the lake in between is invigorating, refreshing and leaves you feeling amazing!

🌿 October at Kawakawa Hut

Spring has well and truly arrived at the Hut. Days in Taupō are generally cool and fresh, with average highs around 15°C and overnight temperatures around 7°C. Think crisp mornings, sunny spring days, cool breezes and those beautiful longer evenings, thanks to daylight savings.

There’s plenty happening — school holidays, Labour Weekend, our local school Ag Day, Halloween, and things really start happening around the farm — spring planting for the summer ahead, fresh growth and longer days outside. 🍅🌽🥬

A very late share, sitting in my draft folder! But it’s always a special time when we get to enjoy the Hut! 🎈For my birthday (back in June!) we had a little party - as kids are always keen for any excuse! So nice to enjoy the outdoor space, even on a cold winters day! The garden is so established now, you feel tucked away behind the hedge and then the outdoor fire, she is a weapon! A little bit westy in design but she does her job so well 👍 🔥

Magical mornings ✨

This is where my day often begins — walking Betty along a sheltered, sun-filtered track winding through native bush. Follow it all the way and you’ll reach Kinloch, or for those more adventurous complete the 30km loop of the Great Lake Trail.

These quiet moments often stop me in my tracks, a reminder of how grateful I am for the day, and the place we call home.

Keep scrolling to find our secret track, just opposite our driveway 🌿 a bit scrambley in places but pops you straight down onto the track.

Our little corner of paradise just keeps getting better ✨

Right next door to Kawakawa Hut, the former Kinloch Glamping is now home to with Terri, a beautiful new yoga studio with epic views 🗻

🧘 Terri is an wonderful teacher, and I’ve personally been enjoying her classes at the local hall for the past 7 years. She creates a welcoming space for all levels, whether you’re just starting out or looking for something more advanced.

Another incredible experience at our favourite restaurant, .nz ✨

This time we were celebrating Nana Rae’s big birthday 🎈 Frankie tagged along after our babysitting plans fell through, and the Embra team went above and beyond to make her feel welcome. She’s not quite at the stage of enjoying a five-course degustation just yet, but they made sure she was well looked after 🙏

Each dish was a work of art and a joy to taste. My standout was the venison loin with braised venison and swede cottage pie, quince, and rainbow chard 👌

Thanks, Embra — a must-do experience when you next visit Taupō 💛

🫖 A sweet new addition to our Hut — a beautiful teapot cosy lovingly knitted by Nana Rae (Brent’s mum). Perfect for long, slow mornings with a hot cup of tea in hand. We provide a selection of teas to choose from, including “gumboot” (normal) tea and a range of herbal blends 🌿. Help yourself and enjoy!
