Our Story

Chateau Tongariro Hotel was constructed in 1929 and provides visitors with timeless elegance and exceptional service, accommodation and facilities.

Sitting gracefully inside the dual world heritage Tongariro National Park, the hotel is surrounded by some of New Zealand’s best alpine treks and the sacred peaks of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. A few minutes’ drive from the front door visitors can hike the world renowned Tongariro Alpine Crossing, or in winter hit the slopes at the Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas.

Some guests though may be tempted to spend all their time at the hotel enjoying exceptional cuisine and facilities that include a fitness room, lounge billiards, plunge pool and sauna and onsite beauty and therapy spa.
