In summer, with the maunga laid mostly bare of its winter coat, RAL offer sightseeing aboard the 1.8km long Sky Waka gondola, food and beverage options at 2020m above sea level, and marked walks for a range of abilities.

Explore the heart of New Zealand's North Island on Mt Ruapehu at its most raw and real, from above the ground and on foot, through to April 2024.
The Sky Waka gondola allows you to really take in the floor to ceiling views extending out across the Central Plateau. The journey takes about 12 minutes, as you journey into the clouds, past waterfalls, and ancient lava flows.

New this Summer Season is discounted travel on the Sky Waka gondola for New Zealand residents. We encourage all New Zealanders to get out and explore their own backyard. Proof of New Zealand residency and also 'gold card' status for relevant discounts may be requested on arrival so please have these handy.
