Some mornings in Pōneke feel like a secret. You wander uphill, coffee in hand, and suddenly the city unfolds, Te Whanganui-a-Tara shimmering below, the harbour still half-asleep. Roseneath winds down gently to the sea, and the little church watches quietly over it all.
It’s the kind of view that makes you slow down, breathe deeper, maybe stay a little longer.
There’s mauri here, the living energy of this land, and it stays with you.

Kei te pai te haere, the journey’s going well.

And maybe, it’s just getting started.

Come find your pause.
We’re just around the corner.

School holidays in Pōneke
While the city buzzes, he just stands there, watching buckets tip and splash like it’s a magic show. No phone, no rush, just wonder.

Sometimes, Wellington’s loudest places offer the calmest moments.
Stay close to the magic .

Most people head up Mount Vic for the lookout.
But there’s another side to it, narrow paths through the trees, soft earth underfoot, and a quiet that feels almost otherworldly. It’s the kind of place that makes winter feel like a fairytale, just a little eerie and a little magical. like you’ve stepped into a story.
Wellington has a way of doing that.

If you're curious to explore the hidden trails, ask reception, we’ll happily point you to our favorite secret spots.

Soft lighting, space for your things, and the quiet comfort you need after a day exploring Wellington.

Because small comforts matter, especially when you're far from home.

Looking for an unforgettable day trip from The Marion? Head to Red Rocks (Pariwhero), where rugged coastline, ancient geology, and seasonal seal colonies create one of Wellington’s most iconic walks.

Feeling adventurous?
Take the bus to the Brooklyn turbine and hike around four hours over open ridgelines and down to the coast. The views are wild, the terrain raw, and the sense of escape is real.

Prefer a cruisier journey?
Catch the bus 29 to Ōwhiro Bay or Island Bay and follow the coastal track. It’s mostly flat, winds along the water’s edge, and if it’s winter, you might spot seals lounging on the rocks.

Both options are free, off the beaten track, and just 30 minutes from the city.

Tips from us:
– Wear sturdy footwear – it’s rocky and exposed in places
– Bring water and snacks – no shops out there
– Check the weather – conditions can change quickly
– On Sundays, the coastal track is closed to vehicles from 9 am to 6 pm, making it especially peaceful

Wellington is full of surprises. Red Rocks is one of our favourites.

📍 Te Papa Tongarewa, Museum of New Zealand.

Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington is one of the most dynamic museums in the world. It combines art, culture, history, science, and interactivity in one incredible space.

Some of the currently main exhibitions are:

- Te Taiao | Nature: explores Aotearoa’s unique natural environment.

- Mana Whenua: This exhibition tells the story of the Māori people, their origins, spirituality, and connection to the land.

- Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War, tells the stories of eight New Zealanders during the WWI Gallipoli campaign.

Amazing plan when visiting Welly! No doubt, it's a MUST DO 😉
