Wellington Lodge

Wellington Lodge We are a Freemason Lodge in Wellington NZ, # 1521 under the English Constitution. We were consecrate The Lodge is a dining lodge.

The Wellington Lodge has long been regarded as a city lodge and the majority of its members were professional people who worked and often lived in the inner city and suburbs. Today it embraces a wider range of vocations with members coming from as far afield as Waikanae and the Wairarapa. It continues to be one of the largest lodges in the District of the North Island with sixty members including

some who live as far afield at Aberdeen, Singapore, Doha, Brisbane and Vanuatu, but retain their membership because of the strong bond that is established between the Lodge and its members. Immediately following its meetings it sits down to dinner in the Grand Dining Room of the Wellesley Boutique Hotel, where members can enjoy each other’s company with fine food great conversation and a programme of formal and not so formal toasts. The Wellington Lodge enjoys an active social programme during the year with functions that include wives and partners and range from the informality of the Summer BBQ to the Spring Dinner in the Wellesley Boutique Hotel. The hotel is likewise the venue for a monthly meet and greet for members when they can gather informally over a drink and set the world to rights.Over the past one hundred and forty years The Wellington Lodge has built a reputation for the quality of its ritual (which forms a significant part of its meetings). Equally it is noted for its refectory (dinner) particularly in June which marks the start of our Masonic Year and in December when we have a special festive dinner.

Congratulations to WBro Cameron Pearce MacFarlane who on Wednesday 16th June 2022 was proclaimed the 148th Master of The Wellington Lodge 1521 EC.

Brethren attending on behalf of Grand and District Grand Lodges were:
- Right Worshipful Brother Warren Errol Weir, District Grand Master, District Grand Lodge of North Island New Zealand, United Grand Lodge of England.
- Brother Chesley Birch. Substitute District Grand Master, District Grand Lodge of North Island New Zealand, Grand Lodge of Scotland.
- Right Worshipful Brother Russell David Pratt, Divisional Grand Master, Central Division, Grand Lodge of New Zealand.

Prior to Installing the new Master, WBro Peter Dieckermann thanked his Officers and members for what had been a difficult year due to Covid19 restrictions and the difficulties this has posed in being able to meet face to face.

WBro MacFarlane was installed as Worshipful Master in a dignified and sympathetic manner after which he Invested his Officers for the year. Unfortunately due to sickness and isolation requirements many of the investitures have had to be deferred until the next available opportunity!

WBro MacFarlane thanked all the distinguished visitors and those from our sister constitutions who made the effort to travel to Wellington (some very far) especially for this event. He is looking forward to an exciting year ahead with a number of degree workings planned as well as the prospect of new members already waiting to join.

The evening was concluded by a convivial Festive Board where members and visitors enjoyed a delicious meal with all the regular toasts and replies.
