Looking back at the 2026 conference from earlier this year. We enjoyed a fantastic four days exploring many homesteads and gardens around Selwyn, Geraldine, Timaru, and Ōamaru. We look forward to the conference each year and can't wait to catch up with our garden friends next year.

Plant of the Month: Cornus Florida 'Cherokee Sunset' (Flowering Dogwood) πŸ‚

This frost hardy, deciduous tree has beautiful leaves which change colour throughout the year. The new green leaves in spring are variegated with cream yellow and pink margins. Large, pink-red, flat flowers appear in spring too. In summer the leaves are broadly margined with yellow, that turn tones of rose pink, red, and purple in autumn. The cornus florida will grow to 3-4 metres tall.

Plant of the Month: Copper and Green Beech πŸ‚πŸƒ

One of our favourite parts of the garden is the tapestry copper and green beech hedge. These deciduous trees come to life in spring and have a beautiful display of colourful leaves. The leaves age to become glossy and dark later insummer, then turn a russet-brown colour in autumn as they die off. The hedge keeps these dead leaves all winter in part to protect the trees from frost.
