A few rooms just opened up for Jazz Fest weekend 🎷

The first Luis Russell Jazz Festival takes over Bocas Town this Friday and Saturday, honouring the Bocas-born pianist who helped shape early jazz in New York. The festival parade comes right down Main Street, past our front door.

4:30 pm · Festival Parade down Calle Tercera with the Bocas Fire Department band (free)
8:30 pm · Late-night sessions and an all-stars jam at The Island Tap House ($10)

4:30 pm · The Colegio Rogelio Josué Ibarra Big Band parades from Parque Simón Bolívar to the Carenero dock (free)
6:00 pm · Grand Concert at Tropical Arts Resort ($30, or any 2 events for $35)

To everyone travelling to Bocas this week 🌴

After Friday’s earthquake, many of you have written to ask how we are. Thank you. We’re okay, the hotel is open, and reception is here as usual.

The quake was centred far from us, off the Azuero coast. Our thoughts are with the communities there and across Panama who were hit hardest.

If you’re flying in over the next few days, check your flight with your airline before you leave, since Tocumen has been pausing flights after aftershocks. If your plans change, message us on WhatsApp at +507 6880-0257 and we’ll help you move your dates.

We’ll see you on Main Street when you get here.

Nowhere to be this afternoon. 🌴

Some days in Bocas are for boats and beaches. Others are for doing almost nothing at all.

Swing in the hammock on the balcony, open the windows and let the fan do the work, or grab a seat on the terrace downstairs and watch Main Street go by. The islands will still be there tomorrow.

Last call for the turtles. 🐢

From March to October, leatherback, hawksbill and green sea turtles come ashore on Bluff Beach to nest. It’s a protected reserve on our own island, a short drive from Bocas Town.

October is the tail end of the season, when the last nests are hatching and the little ones make their run for the sea.

If you go:
· Go with a local guide on a night walk
· No flashlights or flash photos, the light confuses them
· Give them space and let them reach the water on their own

Spend the night on the beach, then come back to a hot shower and a late dinner on Main Street.

Some beaches you can only visit when the sea says yes. 🌊

Polo Beach sits on the far side of Isla Bastimentos, a quiet cove where a reef breaks the waves and leaves the water inside calm enough to float in. Getting there means a boat ride along the open coast, so for much of the year the captains just can’t make the landing.

October is different. The sea in Bocas goes flat, and the beaches that are usually off the map are back on the tour. Pair it with snorkeling at Coral Cay for a full day out, then come back to a hot shower and dinner on Main Street.

Getting to Bocas is half the adventure. Here’s the easy version. ✈️🚤

✈️ From Panama City: short flights land right in Bocas Town. The airport is a few minutes from our front door, so you can drop your bags and be in the water by lunch.

🚐 From Costa Rica: cross the border at Sixaola–Guabito, ride to Almirante, and hop on a water taxi. About 30 minutes across the bay and you’re here.

🚌 From Boquete, David or Panama City by road: shuttles and buses run to Almirante, then the same water taxi to Isla Colón.

Landing late, or coming in on the last boat? Tell us when you’re arriving and reception will be ready for you.

Everyone’s rainy season. Not ours. 🌴

Most of Panama gets its heaviest rain in September and October. Bocas del Toro runs on a different calendar. These are usually some of our calmest, sunniest weeks of the year: flat water in the mornings, clear visibility for snorkeling, and boat rides to Zapatilla or Starfish Beach that feel smooth.

It’s also the quiet season. Fewer people on the beaches, easier tour bookings, and a slower Bocas Town.
