Congratulations to all Panamanians from Cliff's Hostel, Sabroso Meats and I!

You won!!! And what better day (Independence Day) to receive the news that the Supreme Court decided in the favor of the people! The mining contracts are illegal and will not be honored as they were written!!!

This goes to show you, governments can be beaten and huge corporations can be beaten!

Power to the people! Si se puede! El Pueblo Unido Hamas Sera Vencido!

I am so proud to have chosen Panama to live in and to have my amazing Panamanian wife, son and second family. You are amazing people and an amazing country!

It’s been a journey for

I recently sat down with THE Cliff of Cliffs Hostel in Bocas Del Toro. Cliff fled NY in 2018 and needed an income-producing property.

He decided to buy a hostel, having NEVER stayed in a single hostel before! 🤯

For the first 6 months, he lived at the hostel himself and started making changes. Changes like:

🔑Putting locks on the doors 🫢
🐈Finding new homes for all the cats
💧Installing hot water
🎱Creating the pool lounge area
🙌Rooftop chill space
🖼️Artwork and decoration

Starting a business is never easy, but in Panama and Bocas specifically there are unusual challenges to consider.

When there’s a drought, the whole town is without water. During those times Cliff actually had to carry buckets of water from the ocean to clean and flush toilets.

It’s also always an adjustment to this type of living. The constant, intense humidity, challenges getting reliable staff and keeping out uninvited guests are critical.

We stayed there our first night arriving to Bocas when we couldn’t get past the barricades and loved it. I’m totally a hostel person and LOVE the vibes a good one brings with travelers from all over and stories to share. Cliff’s definitely gets a 5⭐️ rating from us!
