We're getting excited about our 2027 retreat calendar. Look through it and a pattern shows up fast: most of these leaders have run a retreat at Istmo before.

Lianne Kim 's retreat returns to Istmo in January, marking its eighth consecutive year. That's not a coincidence. Retreat leaders who come back that many times aren't choosing the location over again, they're choosing not to start over: a team that already knows how they run a session, a space that's already dialed in, and guests who trust the retreat before they've even landed.

What should your students understand about Panama during your faculty-led study abroad program?

At its narrowest point the isthmus is about 30 miles across, and our location near the canal corridor is close enough to both that a group can spend part of a program on the Pacific side and part on the Caribbean, using the geography itself to teach something a single-coast itinerary can't.

That opens up real material for faculty working in environmental science, geography, history, or international development, not as an add-on excursion, but as the spine of the program.
