Carnivals in Cusco: when tradition becomes celebration
Traveling to Cusco during Carnivals, from February 15 through March, is to discover the city at its most vibrant and radiant. The streets fill with music, ancestral dances, laughter, and Andean aromas, creating a cultural scene experienced with all the senses.
Cusco’s carnival is meant to be shared: water games and mixtura, colorful parades, and spontaneous dancing invite travelers to become part of the celebration. The yunzas—trees adorned with gifts—set the rhythm of the festivities in a joyful and deeply symbolic ritual.
The Plaza de Armas beats as the heart of the carnival, while the Sacred Valley, Pisaq, Calca, Urubamba, the Southern Valley, and towns like Tinta reveal more intimate and authentic celebrations.
After the festivities, Encantada Casa Boutique Spa, in San Blas, awaits as a peaceful retreat.
