Healthy soil is alive, teaming with microbes like bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes. These small critters feed the larger ones such as earthworms and arthropods, who feed the birds, and so on. These trophic levels, or life levels, represent the balance found in a healthy soil food web, the result of which is healthy soil, and, therefore, healthy people.
The image shows the natural succession and maturity of soil that occurs over time as microbes are encouraged and allowed to do their thing. The importance of diverse microbes cannot be overstated, imagine removing all the plankton from the ocean?
Make the connection that conventional agriculture and most standard lawn care is artificial, using man-made fertilizers and synergies biocides.
Our challenge is to grow soil, not just plants…what we think, we grow 🌱
