We were not spared, the devastation of typhoon UWAN, the wind was devastating, trees fell, roofs blown off, the sea brought in more sand and salt water affecting our crops. The newly constructed Maryland Road (road right of way is at the middle of our property) was built higher than our land, and without proper drainage, caused flood waters to remain stagnant. We are appealing to the local government to restore and repair the drainage system at Maryland, Aringay La Union.

We have properties with produce like mangoes are left unharvested just because the farmers have a hard time bringing it down to the main road. What a waste!

High up on steep hill farms in Thailand, a design idea is gathering quiet attention: using bamboo cable lines to send baskets of fruit—mangoes, bananas, papayas—gliding down from farm to village.

Instead of trucks churning up muddy roads, the system relies on slope power and split-bamboo structures maintained by the local community.

The concept is elegantly simple: lightweight supports, a pulley or cable system, and baskets marked by colours or weaving to keep track of whose produce is whose.

Some routes might span rivers or valleys, turning daily harvest deliveries into a gentle aerial rhythm. With minimal fuel use, fewer vehicles on fragile trails and local labour steering upkeep, the concept sketches a picture of logistics re-imagined.

While documented evidence remains thin, the idea points to how rural infrastructure might be reshaped—by tapping natural gradients, local materials and low-tech ingenuity. When tradition and innovation meet in the field, even remote farms can become part of a more sustainable transport network.

Imagine an Indonesia where bridges are not forged in steel but grown from the forest itself.

Bamboo spans rise across rivers and flood-prone valleys — held not by nails or bolts, but by the tension of ropes and the wisdom of curved joints. Each piece bends, flexes, and breathes with the rhythm of water and wind.

In this vision, local builders use only what nature provides: mature bamboo poles, rope made from coconut fiber, and interlocking notches that tighten with time. Fire bends the bamboo, water strengthens the ropes, and the structure becomes one living form — light, resilient, and endlessly repairable.

Such bridges would not resist nature; they would flow with it. When floods come, they move instead of breaking. When parts wear down, communities replace them with their own hands, their own materials. No waste, no cement, no metal — only renewal.

This is regenerative design made real: a future where engineering listens to ecology, and resilience grows from roots, not factories.

Relaxing, drizzling afternoon, waiting for the sunset, though cloud covered, the splash of orange and red at the horizon and the reflection is what makes waiting, worth it!

Our farmers work tirelessly to bring this abundance to our tables. Their message is clear: support them, appreciate them, and recognize their irreplaceable contribution.
