In older colonial homes, intricate wooden floors were expensive declarations. Small pieces of wood had to be cut, matched, arranged, and fitted by hand. Using different tones of wood made the work even slower and the materials harder to source. That was the point.

A floor like this told visitors that the family had money, taste, and access to skilled labor. No loud announcement needed. You simply stepped on the proof.

At Casa Simeon, you can still see these panels, which really tell you about how homes were built back then: with patience, a clear order, and a certain belief that even the floor needed to be looked after.
