The number of patients affected by the acute gastroenteritis has risen to 2,199 as of 11 a.m. today, Jan. 11, 2024 based on the self-reporting system of the City Health Services Office.
But Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the city expects the cases to let up soon with the safety and preventive measures adopted by the food establishments and households in the city.
The mayor said that as of 10 p.m. of January 10, 2024, 45 patients were admitted at the hospital.
The mayor said testing of water samples from suspected sources also continued to be fast-tracked.
He said the total of water sample submitted was 28, 16 of which had results and 12 awaiting results. All the 16 tested negative for thermotolerant coliform organism and will be subjected to viral testing at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
City Health Officer Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes said that based on the reports received, that majority of the cases occurred from Jan. 2 to 8.
Of the total number of cases, 492 sought consultation in health facilities with 64.4 percent still symptomatic.
Majority or 63.6 percent of the patients dined in a food establishment, 13.2 percent ordered take-out food, 11.2 percent ate home-cooked meals and 12 percent had other reasons.
A total of 218 were from outside Baguio while 204 were from neighboring towns, 113 from Bakakeng Norte barangay, 100 from unspecified locations, 94 from Irisan, 90 from Camp 7 and the rest from the different barangays. – Aileen P. Refuerzo, Baguio PIO
