Introduction
The year 2020 is one of the toughest times the world needs to face due to a global crisis on health and economy. It has brought the world to a new normal that most countries are adopting nowadays. The Philippines, being one of South East Asian countries topping the list in the number of Corona Virus cases, has also implemented the “new norm” in all its industries.
With the challenges at hand, most people has resulted to working homebased which the country’s internet provider has not foreseen. The demand for each household to have an internet connection increased rapidly resulting to some people on the waiting list.
Baguio City being one of the game changers in BPO and ESL industries, have not escaped this situation. It has also thrived to get back to its normal operation after the lifting of the GCQ in the locality. This has brought many small and big scale industries to start its operation again, few of the many that resumed recently are the BPO and Online ESL companies. But this did not end the problem on unemployment, many are still on the job hunt or are still waiting for their company to operate. The unemployment rate has brought people to a “stop-gap”, where majority are forced to look for a temporary work while waiting for the “normal” operation. It has also led people to not just unemployment but also underemployment status and majority of the work available at hand are the online based job opportunities which the BPO and ESL industries are providing.
The job opportunities available at hand is a great start in the new norm but since majority are not ready for this situation, many are looking for a workspace that will provide them an avenue to grow financially.
