The local government recently declared April 23-27, 2026 as the 7th Mangan Taku Cordillera food fair in the city.
Under Executive Order No. 40, series of 2026 signed by Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong, the Cordillera office of the Department of Tourism (DOT-CAR) is designated as the lead implementing and action entity for the aforesaid activity and is authorized to harness public and private support for the successful ex*****on of the endeavor.
The theme of the 7th edition of Mangan Taku Cordillera food fair is โPreserving Traditions, Sustaining Flavors.โ
The order stated that the Mangan Taku activities will take place at the Rose Garden in Burnham Park and will run from April 23-27, 2026 where April 18-22, 2026 shall serve as the setup duration and April 27-May 3, 2026 as set down.
The mayor ordered all concerned government agencies and local government departments and offices to extend support for the successful conduct of the said endeavor.
Further, the local chief executive also called on regional line agencies, the business and private sectors to extend all cordialities for the success of the 7th Mangan Taku Cordillera food fair that will be held in the city on the aforesaid dates.
The order stated that it is essential to provide guidelines and regulations to efficiently and effectively manage the conduct of the annual Mangan Taku Cordillera food fair.
Earlier, April is known as the Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino or Filipino Food Month pursuant to Proclamation NO. 469 signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte on April 13, 2018 to help promote the appreciation, preservation and promotion of Philippine culinary traditions and treasures, ensuring the transfer of knowledge to future generations and to support the various industries, farmers and agri-communities that benefit from the said industry.
The first-ever celebration of the Mangan Taku Cordillera food fair was held on April 8-14, 2019 at the Rose Garden in Burnham Park, which highlighted the delectable culinary tapestry of the Cordilleras.
The city adopted Ordinance No. 81, series of 2019 that institutionalized the Mangan Taku Cordillera food festival that will be conducted every second week of April as part of the Summer Vacation in Baguio activities of the local government and that it was adopted to highlight the cuisine and heirloom dishes from the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province to boost the culinary tourism industry in the region. - By Dexter A.
