𝗗𝗣𝗪𝗛 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗦 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗔𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗢 𝗪𝗔𝗟𝗞𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧

Public works Secretary Vivencio ‘Vince’ Dizon assured the agency’s support for the renewed implementation of the local government of its walkable project that seeks to empower residents and visitors to walk instead of using their vehicles in going around the city.

Earlier, Mayor Benjamin Magalong brought to the attention of Secretary Dizon the current state of various roads around the city that lack sidewalks which pose a serious threat to the safety of people who opt to walk and enjoy the city’s cool weather.

He claimed that the local government’s walkable city project had been delayed because of issues and concerns regarding coordination with the previous leadership of the DPWH Baguio City District Engineering Office (BCDEO).

He further announced that the local government will also pursue the installation of the internationally accepted standard tactile strips in selected sidewalks around the city for the use of the visually impaired individuals.

The mayor pointed out that he took responsibility for the previous installation of the controversial tactiles, which were the ones that were endorsed and procured by the DPWH, as he was made to believe that it was the one that had been considered as an international standard.

The DPWH Secretary lauded the efforts of the local government to make its roads and sidewalks walkable with the implementation of various projects which will be complemented by the agency through the DPWH-BCDEO that will be complementing such projects for the overall safety of both pedestrians and motorists.

The local government continues to aggressively recover portions of major roads to ensure the installation of standard sidewalks that will greatly contribute to enticing residents and visitors to walk when going around the city and eventually achieve its overall objective of making Baguio a walkable city in the future.

The local chief executive assured that the tactile strips that will be installed in selected roads around the city will be the ones that are classified to be international standards to avoid incidents of slippery surfaces that resulted in incidents that compromised the safety of the pedestrians.

Dizon conducted an inspection on the various projects of the DPWH that are either completed or ongoing in the different parts of the city following his serving as the guest of honor and speaker during the grand streetdancing parade which was one of the major highlights of the 30th edition of the Panagbenga Flower Festival on February 28, 2026.
