The city government recently authorized the closure of portions of TM Kalaw St., Session Road, Magsaysay Road, Harrison Road and Burnham Lake Drive to vehicular traffic on February 23, 2026 from 5 am to 12 noon in connection with the celebration of the Ibaloy Day this year, especially the parade that will be conducted for the said event.
Under Executive Order No. 20, series of 2026 signed by Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong, the following portions of the roads that will be closed are: TM Kalaw St. fronting the Baguio Convention Center, Upper Session road fronting the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), City Social Welfare and Development Office and Casa Vallejo areas; right lane going down Session road; Magsaysay Road fronting Maharlika; Harrison Road lane beside Melvin Jones and Burnham Lake Drive.
The order tasked all concerned city government departments and offices to extend their full support to this undertaking with responsibilities that will be carried out.
The office of the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) and the Onjon ni Ivadoi, Inc. shall serve as the primary coordinators of the parade while the Baguio City Police Office shall oversee the implementation of the order and manage the security and traffic at the specified areas.
Further, the City Engineering Office shall provide the manpower, equipment and devices for the closure of roads and re-routing of traffic while the City Administratorβ Office shall issue the requisite permit for the conduct of the parade.
The order also directed the P***c Information Office to cause the widest dissemination of the same for the guidance of motorists plying the said roads on the date and time.
The order recognizes the Ibaloy as the indigenous peoples in the city and its surrounding areas whose culture, traditions and way of life form an integral part of the cityβs history and identity.
The Ibaloy Day celebration seeks to promote their culture and traditions; educate the public, particularly the youth, on history and values; recognize the Ibaloi communityβs contributions to the social, cultural and economic development of the city; foster unity among indigenous and non-indigenous communities; uphold Ibaloi rights and welfare; and support heritage conservation and sustainable tourism that benefit local communities.
Earlier, the Office of the President issued Proclamation No. 1125 that declared Monday, February 23, 2026, as a special non-working day in the city in time for the celebration of Ibaloy Day.
The upcoming celebration shall feature meaningful activities, including a solidarity parade on February 23, 2026, from 7 am to 12 pm, commencing at the Baguio Convention Center and culminating at the Melvin Jones grounds. By Dexter A. See
