Dedicated to protecting the local biodiversity including reintroduced endangered and endemic animals.

𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖? Our ₱𝟱𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 features the 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘁, one of the Philippines' most elusive native wild cats. The leopard cat shown on the banknote is Kyle, a former wildlife ambassador at Negros Forest Park.

Through his role as a wildlife ambassador, Kyle helped inspire appreciation for the unique and threatened wildlife of the Western Visayas. Today, his image on the ₱50 banknote continues to remind us of the importance of protecting our native wildlife and the habitats they depend on.

Today, we recognize 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗗𝗮𝘆, a reminder of the vital role laws play in protecting wildlife and the places they call home.

In the Philippines, wildlife protection laws help safeguard endangered species from threats such as illegal hunting and wildlife trade while supporting the conservation of their natural habitats. These legal protections are an important foundation for preserving our country's unique biodiversity.

Conservation, however, goes beyond legislation. Each of us has a role to play by respecting wildlife, protecting natural habitats, and supporting efforts that help endangered species recover.

Together, we can help ensure a future where Philippine wildlife continues to thrive.

Visayan "Tarictic" Hornbill, 𝙋𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙞
Local Name: 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 | Status: 𝑬𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅

Our nest box camera traps captured different male Visayan "Tarictic" Hornbills delivering food to their nesting partners at separate artificial nest boxes over different breeding seasons.

As mature trees with natural nesting cavities become increasingly scarce, artificial nest boxes provide safe nesting sites that help support the breeding of this endangered species in the wild.

Watching different hornbill pairs successfully use these nest boxes is one of the many ways we see conservation in action. Every successful nesting season gives hope for the future of the Visayan "Tarictic" Hornbill.

Yesterday, the Camp DEER Education Officers of the Talarak Foundation, Inc. attended the Local School Board Meeting to introduce the Camp DEER Program and share its role in promoting environmental education through the Bayawan Nature Reserve.

Asian Palm Civet, 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙭𝙪𝙧𝙪𝙨 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙨
Local Name: 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐠 | Status: 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒏

Asian Palm Civets quietly moving through different areas of the reserve under the cover of darkness were captured by our camera traps, offering a glimpse into the nighttime activity of one of the forest's most elusive mammals.

Primarily nocturnal and excellent climbers, Asian Palm Civets spend much of the night foraging for fruits, insects, and other small animals. As they move through the forest, they also play an important role in seed dispersal, helping maintain healthy and regenerating forest ecosystems.

Every camera trap encounter reveals another piece of the reserve's hidden nightlife, reminding us that the forest remains alive with wildlife long after the sun goes down.
