Overthinking

“I praise you because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to the simple people.” – Matthew 11:25 (CCB)

When the community quarantine started in 2020, we were swamped with information about COVID-19 and ways to stay safe and sane. Fear overwhelmed us. We thought overthinking would give certainty over uncertain matters. We analyzed what was happening to the world until it took a toll on our mental and physical health. Insomnia, binge-eating, and anxiety became an epidemic on their own.

But the pandemic highlighted these words: simplicity, essentials, basics. The Lord revealed to us simple solutions to seemingly complex situations.

Wash hands. Cover mouth. Take supplements. Drink water. Eat vegetables. Breathe. Get sunlight. Walk. Move. Sweat. Plant. Be quiet. Sleep well. Stay at home. Be with family. Connect with loved ones. Laugh. Play. Help others. Love your spouse. Serve your kids. Pray together.

What we took for granted were the very things we needed to thrive amidst life’s difficulties. (Michele Alignay)
