Tree planting was conducted at LVSR–IDCF, spearheaded by CENRO Cantilan and MENRO Cantilan, in collaboration with personnel from the Cantilan Municipal Police Station, Cantilan District Jail, BFP Caraga Cantilan Fire Station, and NEMSU Criminology students. The activity was held in commemoration of the International Day of Forests, observed annually on March 21.
The observance aims to raise global awareness about the vital role forests play in sustaining life on Earth and to encourage nations and communities to protect and restore them. Over the years, this global initiative has unified efforts across countries, focusing on pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable forest management. This year’s theme, “Forests and Economies,” highlights the strong connection between healthy forests and economic sustainability.
The timing of the activity was especially significant, as the LVSR beachfront has been experiencing sand erosion due to unusually high tides—an evident impact of climate change. Through this initiative, participating organizations aim to inspire communities to actively engage in tree-growing campaigns and deepen public understanding of how forest conservation contributes to environmental protection, economic resilience, and shared learning opportunities.
