A state of calamity has been declared in Dinagat Islands as the province grapples with a worsening water crisis brought on by El Niรฑo.
According to Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr., around 50% of the rivers that serve as water sources for the local water district have already dried up.
The provincial government, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), has begun water rationing in affected areas, including schools and hospital.
Around 18,000 residents have been affected by the water crisis.
Multiple forest fires have also been reported across Dinagat Islands amid the intense heat being experienced in the province. | via Dennis Datu, ABS-CBN News
