While all schools remain closed on Siargao Island, the Bureau of Immigration is getting ready to open the international frontiers to visitors from around the world. I guess the government are just following the science. Meanwhile, domestic tourists have recently returned to Siargao in droves. It’s surprisingly busy here in the midst of a supposedly deadly pandemic. Anyway, this drone shot was taken a few days before domestic travel resumed and Kawhagan Sandbar was amazingly peaceful and beautiful. Perhaps it’ll never be like this again!

After ten stressful weeks, we successfully knocked down our rustic wooden house Airbnb rental and built something more durable and contemporary. Our new private home fuses together reclaimed hard wood with clean, white walls and glass. Sadly, our business is now permanently closed due to a combination of factors. Maybe one day we’ll reopen or someone will take the whole property off our hands for 20 years. For now, we’ll just live a quiet life in the village and appreciate all we have.

Siargao’s Airport reopens on December 1st and quarantine isn’t required anymore. While we’ve decided to close our small homestay business indefinitely, there are plenty of other places to stay. We’d recommend and our neighbours’ beautiful property

Although it’s often cheaper to fly to Bali, some Manila residents still stump up 10k pesos to get their Siargao fix. One of them is our friend who loves the island and hopes to move there (or somewhere similarly appealing) soon to escape the pressures of city life. She found time to pose in front of our new stone wall on her last visit and is super excited to stay with us again in just over a week.

While the islands off Siargao’s east coast, like Guyam, Naked, Daco and Casulian, are definitely the most popular, they aren’t necessarily the best. Also, you’ll have to share them with many other visitors.

Last summer Miras, Raf and I spent a lot of time exploring Siargao’s north west coast to get away from famous spots; we found hidden gems like this one to fly the drone and swim in isolated bliss.

I guess you should never build anything in the Philippines unless you’re physically there to oversee design and expenses. Right now, we rent our large 613-square-foot loft to a maximum of three people. It’s a huge space for an incredible price. However, we’re always being asked to accommodate larger groups, especially Pinoys. From next year we’ll increase the maximum number of visitors to eight. Do you think this is a good idea?
