ON THE GROUND: NEARLY THREE MONTHS AFTER THE MAGNITUDE 7.8 EARTHQUAKE, MINDANAO COMMUNITIES CONTINUE THE LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY SINCE JUNE 8, 2026 AT GENSAN CITY, SARANGANI PROVINCE AND DAVAO OCCIDENTAL PROVINCE
As part of the emergency response, Batang Star Philippines, together with personnel from Waves For Water (W4W) Philippines/International, conducted water-filtration demonstrations and distributed 20 water-filtration systems to benefit 120 earthquake-affected families in the Tandag IP-Blaan Community.
The water-filtration systems were provided by Waves For Water through the generous support of its sponsors, including Canva Philippines, Bank of China, and East Raya Gardens Condominiums.
Beyond the distribution of equipment, the training and demonstrations were conducted, by W4W personnel and Batang Star--Aden Jay Bantan, Executive Operating Officer for Needy IP-Children Welfare Program, to equip community members with the knowledge and skills needed to properly use, maintain, and sustain the filtration systems. This initiative supports safer access to drinking water, improved sanitation, and healthier communities—not only during the immediate emergency, but throughout the continuing recovery process.
The earthquake may have happened months ago, but its impact continues to shape everyday life in communities like the Tandag IP-Blaan Community. Recovery does not end when the ground stops shaking—it continues through sustained support, preparedness, and community-led action.
This , we are reminded that clean water is not only a humanitarian need—it is a foundation for resilient communities. Water security is an essential part of disaster preparedness, emergency response, and long-term recovery. Ensuring that communities have both the knowledge and tools to access safe water is an investment in health, dignity, preparedness, and resilience.
