As cities around the world continually navigate the challenges of public health, Manila faces its own battle against a surge in influenza-like illnesses (ILI). Between January and September this year, the number of reported cases reached a staggering 121,716. The community is actively responding to this health concern, with the Department of Education taking significant preventive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and educators alike.
Influenza-like illnesses are characterized by symptoms similar to those of the flu, such as fever, cough, sore throat, and body aches. While these symptoms may seem common, the sheer volume of cases reported in Manila has raised concerns among health officials and the public.
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa on Tuesday clarified that there is no outbreak of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) in the country, stressing that the current increase in cases is part of the usual seasonal flu trend during the colder months.
