Boracay’s world-famous beauty has its roots in Barangay Yapak, where the 1970s saw the rise of a unique tradition: collecting Puka shells for trade, locally known as tyempo sihi. This humble practice not only supported the livelihoods of the people of Yapak but also turned these shells into symbols of artistry, resilience, and cultural pride.

Honoring Our Lady of Lourdes, the Patroness of Barangay Yapak, the Puka Shell Festival celebrates the community’s creativity and heritage set against the stunning backdrop of the award-winning Puka Beach.

✅ The Philippines officially has 7,641 islands, a number that increased from the previously recognized 7,107 islands after advanced mapping study using high-resolution satellite imaging. This update came after a more detailed mapping study conducted by the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).

Discovery: New, mostly tiny and uninhabited islands were identified.

This cements the Philippines as a stunning archipelago with endless opportunities for exploration!
