Boracay Island is once again set to take the international spotlight as it hosts the 4th Southeast Asia Open Water Swimming Championships from ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐.
Organized by the ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ต๐ด ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ช๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ
and led by ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ ๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ค๐ด ๐๐ฏ๐ค. in partnership with ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ข๐ด๐ต ๐๐ด๐ช๐ข ๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ค๐ด, the ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ท๐ช๐ฏ๐ค๐ช๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ, and other government agencies, the three-day championship is expected to bring together 100 to 120 elite swimmers from eight Southeast Asian countries.
Athletes will compete in the men's and women's 3-kilometer, 5-kilometer, and 10-kilometer races, with the 10-kilometer event serving as the official Olympic marathon swimming distance. In addition, 2-kilometer and 3-kilometer festival races will be open to recreational swimmers who want to experience the excitement and be part of the celebration.
More than just a sporting event, the championship highlights the Philippines' growing reputation for sports tourism, encouraging cultural exchange while showcasing Boracay as a world-class destination for international competitions. Delegates and visitors from countries such as ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ง๐๐ฆ, ๐๐ก๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ง๐, ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐, and ๐๐ง๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ข๐ are also expected to extend their stay on the island, giving an added boost to Boracay's tourism and local economy.
