On October 17, LORMA Colleges in San Juan, La Union became a place where the universe could be touched, heard, smelled, tasted, and shared. It was the first program of its kind in the Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

For a full day and night, Deaf, Blind, low-vision, and sighted participants explored astronomy together through experiences built for non-visual access, a first of its kind in the Philippines.

โœจ Tactile solar system and constellation models
โœจ Braille and raised-line star charts
โœจ Sonification, real astronomical data rendered as sound
โœจ Space food, a taste of how astronauts eat beyond Earth
โœจ A meteorite exhibit, with pieces of space to hold in your hands
โœจ The Smell of Jupiter, an olfactory take on the giant planet
โœจ Filipino ethnoastronomy storytelling on Balatik
โœจ An evening telescope session with live audio description

The program was held in celebration of World Space Week, World Blindness Awareness Month, and Design Week Philippines. It showed that the sky belongs to everyone, and that access to it is a matter of design.

๐ŸŒŒ LOOKING FOR SPONSORS! โœจ

What if we could experience the night sky not only through sight, but also through sound and touch?

On October 17, 2026, weโ€™re bringing โ€œHear and Touch the Skyโ€ to La Union, a multisensory star party and space accessibility program designed to make astronomy more inclusive and accessible.

Weโ€™re currently looking for partners and sponsors who would like to support this initiative and help us create an experience where more people can connect with the cosmos. ๐ŸŒŸ

If your organization would like to collaborate or sponsor the event, weโ€™d love to hear from you!

Today, my wife and I celebrate 40 years together.
In 2018, I wrote an essay/letter to my wife for our 32nd anniversary. It's title was I Am Merak. (https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=i%20am%20merak) Eight years later, I converted that essay into lyrics which I titled "The Line That Binds Us.". Then last April, my wife and son gifted me with an acoustic guitar and I was finally able to make the melody and music for the lyrics. This song is the result as produced and arranged by Suno (which is cheaper than buying a home studio kit or renting an actual studio).

Our has always been such a fascinating object to observe in our night sky. Through a telescope you could see so many surface features. If y'all miss our activities, don't worry we'll soon be back in action.
