Ipinag-utos na ni Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez sa Land Transportation Office (LTO) ang habambuhay na pagkansela sa lisensya ng UV Express driver na nang-araro ng 14 na sasakyan sa kahabaan ng Commonwealth Avenue sa Quezon City kahapon.

Isa sa mga motorista ang naiulat na namatay at 13 pa ang nasugatan.

Ito’y bilang tugon sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na papanagutin ang mga mapang-abuso at iresponsableng driver.

Sa imbestigasyon ng Quezon City Police District at LTO, umamin ang UV express driver na si Ruel Flores Dela Cerna na gumamit siya ng shabu noong Huwebes ng gabi, ilang oras bago ang naturang insidente.

Binigyang diin ni Acting Secretary Lopez na hindi hahayaan ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) ang mga reckless na driver lalo na’t mga gumagamit ng droga na makapag-maneho pa’t malagay sa panganib ang buhay ng mga motorista at komyuter.

“Sisiguraduhin nating hinding-hindi na makakapagmaneho itong UV Express driver na ito. Paulit-ulit ng sinasabi ng Pangulo na dapat ligtas ang ating mga kalsada at mga motorista mula sa mga ganitong iresponsable’t abusadong driver. Kami po sa DOTr ay nagpapa-abot ng aming taos-pusong pakikiramay sa isa po sa mga biktimang pumanaw na,” ani Acting Secretary Lopez.

Nakakulong ngayon si Dela Cerna sa Quezon City Police District at naha-harap sa patong-patong na mga kaso.

Inatasan din ni Acting Secretary Lopez ang Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na mahigpit na ipatupad ang Department Order 2025-008 na nag-oobliga sa mga operator ng pampublikong sasakyan na isailalim sa mandatory drug testing ang kanilang mga driver, at madaliin na ang pagkumpleto sa Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) nito.

Pinatitingnan na rin ng Kalihim sa LTFRB kung maaaring mabigyan ng danyos ang mga biktima sa pamamagitan ng insurance company ng UV express, na isang PUV. # # #
