Small Changes, Big Impact: Keeping Sambawan Pristine! ๐๏ธ
Pursuant to Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-02, which establishes the guidelines for the operation and management of Sambawan Island by the Local Government Unit of Maripipi, Biliran, the Maripipi Tourism Office is strictly enforcing a No Single-Use Plastic Policy. Under Section 4 (Environmental Protection and Preservation Guidelines), both guests and staff are prohibited from bringing items that contribute to plastic waste, ensuring the long-term conservation of the islandโs natural ecosystem.
To our dear visitors and dedicated personnel: preserving paradise starts with what we bring (and what we don't). Letโs work together to keep our shores clean and our oceans plastic-free.
๐ซ Ditch It (Prohibited Items):
* Single-use plastic water bottles and soda bottles.
* Plastic straws and stirrers.
* Styrofoam food containers.
* Disposable plastic bags and cutlery.
โ
Use It (Eco-Friendly Alternatives):
* Tumblers & Flasks: Bring your own reusable water bottle.
* Eco-Bags: Use mesh or cloth bags for your belongings.
* Reusable Containers: Pack your snacks in lunchboxes or beeswax wraps.
* Bamboo/Metal Straws: If you need a straw, make it a permanent one!
Why It Matters:
Our resident sea turtles and diverse fish species depend on a clean habitat. One plastic bag can look like a jellyfish to a turtle, and microplastics can destroy the very reefs we love to snorkel in.
Our Pledge: "Leave only footprints, take only memories." ๐ฃ
Join us in our mission to lead the way in sustainable tourism. See you on the islandโplastic-free and proud!
