15 minutes walk from Luxe House .
Tara visit Bakas River and relax The Luxe House .
Bakas River Norzagaray Bulacan.
A cultural icon for the locals of Norzagaray, but sadly underrated by the rest of the Philippines. Derived from the Tagalog word meaning โa traceโ or โa mark,โ a single glance upon this majestic river is enough to leave a mark upon that would last a lifetime.
The river's cultural significance stems even farther than that, however, and according to the locals, the story behind Bakas river is that the legendary Bernardo Carpio set foot in Matictic leaving a huge foot print or trace on one of the limestone rock formation. The other footprint left by the giant is said to be in Biak na Bato in San Miguel, Bulacan.
Bakas river has giant limestone rock formations with 3 huge statues of Jesus Christ and a statue of Holy Trinity-Virgin Mary. This makes Bakas river a unique and perfect getaway for travelers, adventurers, family bonding/picnic and religious pilgrimage.
Bakas river is perfect for family bonding, family picnic and barkada outing where you can bring your packed foods with you or bring foods which will be cooked in the area like fish, hot dogs and more.
Spotted some men even kids do rock jumping with two jumping points. One with 30ft fall and the other was a 20ft fall into the clear and fast flowing waters of Bakas. Trust me, if you are a adventurous type of a person, it's a must to experience rock jumping while you're there.
There are sari-sari stores in Bakas located around the vicinity which can provide all of your needs like food, toiletries and liquids (alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks).
Some local people sell local foods like steamed corn, steamed peanuts and the famous food in Bulacan - Chicharon Kalabaw and Baboy, when you are lucky, you might find local fruits that can be bought to them freshly picked from their farms.
The famous spot or resort in Bakas is the Bakas Overlooking Resort owned by Nardo Cruz, a more developed resort. More developed in the sense that they actually have a bamboo house where guests can stay. And a kitchen where they can cook. Plus a toilet where they put a drum of water from a nearby well so that customers can use the water from the drum to flush the toilet. And they also have a videoke on the shed right next to the river.
Built huts can be rented for 250php to 1500php in terms of size. Families can stay in Bakas for the day and have a picnic in any of the sheds with bamboo tables and chairs. Really idyllic. Restful.
When to Visit Bakas River?
The best time to visit the river is during summer. Just avoid visiting the place during the Lenten season. Besides the fact that there is a huge number of visitors during holy week, there are also stories about the river being too dangerous during the season. It is also not advisable to visit Bakas river during bad weather as water in the river easily rises.
